  • Update plan for PIES-related work. (GATES, REIMAN, LAZERSON)
Program Update (H. Neilson, D. GATES)
  • Stellarator Program Update - G.H. Neilson
    • Progress on W7-X trim coils: 1st coil wound, second started. First two coils scheduled to ship 29 May.
    • W7-X trim coil power suppplies: Plan to go out for bids in mid-April: FDR around 8 June.
    • W7-X construction (report by T. Rummel, IPP): still on schedule to complete in Summer 2014.
    • Reviewed progress on work plans.
Planning and Status Reports
  • 2.2  XICS Update -  N. Pablant
    • RSI paper is almost ready for submission.
    • Design for diagnostic upgrade is under wa.
    • XICS measurements are now available in the LHD diagnostice database
    • Plans
      • MSE Diagnostic Benchmark paper (PPCF) April
      • DIII-D Equilibrium Reconstruction (EPS Talk/Poster) May
    • Need mid-year review and update of work plans

    • Action: Gates, Reiman, Lazerson
  • 1.3 Scraper Element Modeling & Design (J. Harris, ORNL)
    • ORNL has developed a method, based on following "flux bundles," to shape and position the scraper element.
    • It is shown that the baffles (not designed for high heat-flux) must be protected.
    • Tools that can be used to predict strike zones for a given magnetic configuration are maturing.
  • 3.1  Eddy Current Modeling for CTH -  J. Hanson, Auburn U.
    • Jim has incorporated Ali Zolfaghari's models for the vacuum vessel, helical coil frame, and local holes.
    • Code modifications have been completed.
    • New magnetic diagnostics have been installed and experiments are planned, to support comparison of the old and new models.
  • 3.2  STELLOPT/COILOPT Modifications for Maintainable Designs  - J. Breslau
    • COILOPT with splines is now working.
    • Code developments continue
